I had a chance to talk to a professional fitness trainer who is currently doing the Insanity Workout.  She said that the workout is unlike anything she’s done.

She said its effective and pushes you to your max.

Well I couldn’t agree more.  The Insanity Workout Rocks.

Thanks a ton for sticking around and listening to me jabber on everyday about this workout.

Insanity Workout Review – Week 5

Max Interval Training

Max Interval Training

Welcome back from Slacker Week.

I gotta say that I did not enjoy doing the same workout 6 days in a row. It got real boring and I ended up skipping Friday AND Saturday.

Thursday night I just stayed up to late and slept in… then Saturday my thought was… I’ve got better things to do than this workout, like patch the roof on my garage… Its leaking.

The recovery workout was good and by no means easy, but 6 days in a row! Come on.

So this will be a do as I say and not as I do type of a recovery week. Kinda like a disclaimer… ready?

“To get the best results you should complete every workout, even during the recovery week.”

Now here is what I really think… Take the recovery week easy. It is recovery for a reason. My muscles recovered great when I slept in two times and skipped the workout. I know that is not how it is supposed to go, but it worked really well for me.

How do I know that?

Because I am pumped up and ready for tomorrow. In fact, I am kinda excited for it.

Missing 3 days last week did not make me want to quit. Nor did it end up being a sign of me wanting to slack for the last month. It ended up being quite the opposite effect. I missed three days and now I want to jump right back into it strong.

So… Here we go. Month 2. The real interval training starts tomorrow!

Insanity Workout Review – Day 32

by Ben · Comments (1)
22 Oct

Core Cardio and Balance but lets not talk about that…

Even though I skipped the workout yesterday I still got my exercise in, plus I had loads of fun.

A friend of mine invited me to go mountain biking with him on some trails close to our house. I ride these trails a lot, but he rides pretty much everyday. I think there are over 40 miles of trails, and these mountain biking trails are pretty well known. I once met someone on the trail that came from California all the way up to Washington State just to ride these trails for 4 days.

All that to say… they are pretty sweet. We rode for an hour and the first 20 minutes was a total down pore. IT WAS AWESOME!

My friend, his name is Patrick, was way faster then me. He rides everyday so it was a chore just to keep up with him. But the cool thing is I could tell that my muscles were what was slowing me down. My lungs and heart felt awesome. I contribute that 100% to the Insanity Workout. I would have died out there if I hadn’t been doing Insanity for the last month.

It is nice to do an exercise out side of the Insanity Workout that really pushed me so I could get a gauge on the progress I have made. I felt great and I’m excited about that.

Plus I absolutely love mountain biking. It is so much fun. So in ending this post I am going to leave you with the coolest mountain biking video I’ve ever seen. Now this is NOT me and my friend. Do not get confused.

Insanity Workout Will make you Feel the Burn

Feel the Burn

Today is the start of the Cardio Core and Recovery week.

Last week I think I said I had a fit test coming up… well that is next week, because this is day 1 of Recovery week, which is 6 days of the same workout.

I’m not sure why but I, and many people that do the Insanity Workout, assume recovery somehow means easy… this is by no means true. I’m not sure why I think that way, but I know I’m not alone in making that correlation.

The workout, although not easy, is not as hard as the others throughout the first month, but its purpose and focus is far different.

Shaun T does everything a little bit slower and more focused.

Its quite weird doing mummy kicks that slow…LOL

He creates a deep muscle workout and by the time you get near the end of the workout he takes you through some brutal hip flexer exercises and this crazy shoulder toning exercise that burn and are awesome. I couldn’t make it through either without having to rest a little.

I’ve never done any exercise like these two workouts. To do the shoulder exercise Shaun T tells you to sit into a low squat position, extend your hands and arms out to the side, then he proceeds to lead you through a series of pulsing and arm movements that make your shoulders feel like their being slow roasted an inch over a pile of red hot embers.

All that to say… its a good workout. Shaun T tells you to take it easy and not overly exert yourself because it is meant to be a recovery before the storm they call Max Interval Training that awaits in month 2.

I’m pumped for Month 2… Stay tuned… Tell your friends about InsaneWorkoutReviews… Sign Up to Win A Free Insanity.

I’m out.

Alright… So… Yeah… Um…

How do I tell you guys this?…. Well I’m just going to give it to you straight…

I skipped the workout today. :(

I know, I know… Shame on me BUT it is the only individual workout that I have missed in the 1st 4 weeks of the insanity workout and that is awesome. I’m happy about that. When I did the Chalean Extreme I got sick, missed a week then never started it back up again.

I spent a ton of time today working on my house and cleaning out my garage. I’m turning part of my garage into a play gym for my two daughters… So that was my Saturday project.

For those that want to know… today was supposed to be Plyometric Cardio Circuit.

So because this blog entry is so short I am going to leave you with some encouragement to never be apart of the “system”

Have a fantastic weekend.

WOW… Its been a busy Friday. Let’s see what workout did I do this morning… OH YEAH

Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs

I said in a previous post that doing Shaun T’s ab workouts hurt my back… the C-Sit technique… Well that is still true, but it is hurting much less.

Honestly… I think the muscles that start hurting are simply muscles that I have not used in A VERY LONG TIME. But now I am strengthening them so it is not hurting quite as bad. Which is nice because it is another sign of progress.

I only have one more workout until I am done with the first month!!!
That is awesome.

Next week is the Recovery week. We will be doing the same workout for 6 days straight, so tomorrow is the last workout of month 1. I am feeling good!

Monday we do our third Fit Test so I’ll post those numbers up too.

On a personal note… I am taking my wife on a date tonight. The 2 little munchkins are with our best friends who have 2 little boys the same age as our girls. (27 months and 6 Months) 4 years ago on this date was the first time I kissed my then girlfriend, now wife. And I am proud to say that she is the only girl I have kissed in my whole life!

So for now I am OUT!

Insanity Workout Reviews – Day 25

Today was the Cardio Recovery again!

Thursdays! Gotta love um.

So the guy I workout with is a complete goof ball.  Today for some reason he started incorporating dance moves into the workout.  It was hysterical.

He says that in this workout Shaun T’s inner hip hop abs tries to come out.  Shaun T does throw some pretty slick hand moves, like jazz hands, a few times.

Shaun’s inner dancer cannot be tamed.  It must come out… and this is the Insanity Exercise that it gets released… LOL

  • Well we are almost done with the first month.  Next week we do a new workout, for 6 days straight.  I am excited to switch it up and go to the next level in the insanity workout.  People keep telling me the 2nd month gets crazy hard.  I’ll let you know soon!

NUTRITION: I haven’t been doing that bad with the nutrition lately, not great, but not that bad.  But last night was my brothers 30th birthday party, so we went to Claim Jumpers and I got Black Tie Pasta.  Oh man was it good.  Then I topped it off with some ice cream cake.  MMMmmmm. BUT, come month 2 I am renewing my commitment to nutrition.  I am going to really focus on eating healthy so I can get the most out of the 2nd month.  Plus our workout ends on Nov. 23rd, which is right before Thanksgiving so that will be a FANTASTIC treat.

Leave a comment and remember to sign up to try and win a free insanity(top right of the screen).

Insanity Workout Review – Day 24

Todays workout was Plyometric Cardio Circuit.

Yeah the hard one. Shaun T takes you through level 1 drills and between all three of the circuits he has you do a total of 60 push ups.

Push Ups

Does it need a caption?

Its 4 Push ups follow by high plank(that is in the push up position) sprints… 5 times. Then he takes you right into high plank side to side abs, so you are still holding yourself up in the push up position. THEN he does high plank in and out abs… again, in the push up position. By the end of it all my shoulders feel like they got punched by Mike Tyson.

It’s funny to me… Lately I have not felt like working out in the morning. I sluggishly get out of bed, drag myself to work(yeah I get to workout at work… its pretty cool.) Slowly put on the Insanity Exercise Video of the day(saying, “Oh No its this workout.” to every DVD…LOL), the whole time not really wanting to workout. I don’t know if its because we have been doing the same workouts now and we are finally on our last week of month 1, or if its just that I don’t want to work out (which could be… because I’m not a big fan of putting myself through pain).

Here is the cool part…

Once I start and get into it I feel great. Then I want to push forward and do the workout strong. And now that I am sitting here, workout completed, I feel awesome.

So if you do not feel like working out, just put the DVD in and force yourself to start. You’ll get into it and feel better.

And Happy Birthday to my bro… He is the big THREE ZERO today! (My family has a lot of birthdays in October, in fact I’m the only kid who’s not born in October.)

Insanity Workout Review – Day 23

by Ben · Comments (0)
13 Oct

Well I am sitting here in Starbucks writing this post because the Power at our office is out. (pretty windy here right now)

But that won’t stop me from telling you about todays workout… Cardio Power and Resistance.

You know… Now that I am in week 4 I was hoping to be able to complete all the workouts all the way through without stopping.  That is really hard to do!  LOL

Shaun T developed his Insanity Workouts at a pace that it will push you the whole month through.  Whether you are on day 1 or day 23, these are still difficult workouts.

I really like this Insanity exercise.  There is more focus on the upper body in this workout then the other DVDs.  I like that because I want to build that muscle strength in my upper body.

On a different note: I have had a number of you ask to have my wife share about her Insanity Workout Experience.  I’ll get her to post soon.

I also had a great comment about showing my weaknesses in my posts.  I wanted to touch on that real quick…

I write about my mistakes and weakness because that is apart of life and especially apart of the Insanity Workout.  This is not easy stuff.  If it were easy to get ripped, everyone would be ripped.  I want to show you that it is okay to do the Insanity Workout and not do everything perfect.  Here is how I feel…

80% of the Insanity Workout is better then 100% of Nothing!

See you tomorrow!

Oh By The Way… I had Pizza last night! ;)
